My "Deluxe" Gauge Isn't Holding The Tire Pressure Reading

If the needle of your gauge is not retaining the tire pressure reading until you hit the "release valve" on the neck of the gauge, please continue reading.

 

The pressure is not holding most likely due to small dust particles being trapped, preventing an air tight seal inside the gauge. This can be caused by a number of reasons and it's not anything you did wrong. Luckily, there is an easy fix that works 99% of the time.

 

Please follow these instructions to quickly resolve this issue and get your gauge performing as it should:

Step 1 - Unscrew the unit from the stem to disconnect it from the housing/base of the gauge

 

Step 2 - Carefully remove the three internal parts that are near that connection opening: (A) spring, (B) clear disc, (C) black disc, and (D) insert plug.

 

Step 3 - Gently clean these three components by blowing on them to remove any small dust particles and/or lightly wiping with a clean cloth and a small amount of WD40 or similar cleaner/lube. The key is to remove any tiny dust particles that may be blocking the seal to prevent the pressure reading from holding.

 

Step 4 - Make sure gauge housing is facing upright, then re-insert the internal parts by first inserting the spring (wider end facing up), followed by the clear disc, followed by the black disc on top. Use the insert plug to contain all parts into stem.

 

Step 5 - Re-connect the stem to the gauge housing and check to see if the problem is fixed.
